Training on Risk Communication in Public Health for Communication Officers of selected National Public Health Institutes in Africa in Tunis, Tunisia from 03 to 07 April 2018

Addis Ababa, April 10th, 2018 - Risk and Crisis Communication in Public Health Emergencies training for Officials working in National Public Health Institutes (NPHIs) in the African Union Member States organized by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) in partnership with the National Observatory of New and Emerging Diseases (ONMNE) of the Ministry of health of Tunisia held in Tunis, Tunisia, from 03rd to 07th of April 2018, at the Golden Tulip El Mechtel Hotel.

Risk communication is a core Public Health intervention in any disease outbreak and health emergency. It refers to the real-time exchange of information, advice and opinions between experts, officials and people who face a threat to their wellbeing, to enable informed decision-making and to adopt protective behaviours. It has gone beyond the traditional concept as primarily a tool for dissemination of information to the public about health risks and events, such as outbreaks of disease and instructions on how to change behaviour to mitigate those risks.

As part of Africa CDC activities towards achieving its strategic objectives of strengthening NPHIs and enhancing emergency preparedness and response among Member States of the African Union, Africa CDC jointly with the Tunisian Ministry of Health represented by ONMNE conducted a five day training on Risk communication for Communication Officers of selected National Public Health Institutes in Africa.

PhD Position - Molecular Parasitology

Our parasitology group ( works on the host pathogen interaction of intracellular parasites. We study the mechanisms of host cell transformation by apicomplexan parasites. As a main model organism, we use the cattle pathogen Theileria annulata. Theileria is widely known to transform the host cell by interference with signaling pathways, turning cells in an epigenetic cancer cell-like state.
