SACIDS 2nd One Health Conference in Africa (OHCA) proved to be a successful annual event jointly organized with the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR). The objectives of the this event to promote health research for sustainable socio-economic development in Africa; to share research findings with the key stakeholders and general public; to discuss and explore new health services and research priority areas; and to promote One Health Agenda as a drive for health research.
This year, SACIDS held the 2nd OHCA from April 16 – 19, at Snow Crest Hotel, in Arusha. The main theme was “Changing Landscape for Health Research in Africa”. Several speeches were made, including that of Prof. Mark Rweyemamu, Executive Director of SACIDS.
The opening address was presented by H.E. Dr. Gharib Bilal, Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, who was the guest of honour at the event.
The opening address was followed by a Vote of Thanks by Prof. Dominic Kambarage, Deputy Director (Animal Health), SACIDS, and a keynote address delivered by Dr. HenkJan Ormel, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Senior Veterinary Policy Advisor, Animal Health Service, at the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). The keynote address was titled “One Health as a global public good for combating disease at the human-animal-ecosystems interface” along with a video presentation.
